Study time

I have another certification test coming up so I wont be writing too much in the coming month. So perhaps you have a comment that you could enter in and someone might actually read it!! I dont think too many people actually read anything I have written here. I have to cram much of the huge books I have boughten into my head so that I can pass this expensive test.

OSPF bounces

Weird Problem between two Cisco devices. On one device we are seeing errors in the log (router A) %OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr x.x.x.x on VlanY from EXSTART to DOWN, Neighbor Down: Too many DBD retransmitions %OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr x.x.x.x on VlanY from DOWN to DOWN, Neighbor Down: Dead timer expired and on router B the head end router %DTP-SP-5-DOMAINMISMATCH: Unable to perform trunk negotiation on port Gi5/1 because of VTP domain mismatch. %EARL_L3_ASIC-SP-3-INTR_WARN: EARL L3 ASIC: Non-fatal interrupt Packet Parser block interrupt %MLS_STAT-SP-4-IP_LEN_ERR: MAC/IP length inconsistencies Now at first look this would seem to be a physical problem of some sort, we are not able to see any kind of errors, So on some investigation we discovered that the ARP table is not getting updated on the one side of the link. And the sniffer shows (from either side) the pings between the links source with the same IP address no matter where the traffic is coming from?? Then ...

Sitemeter and reminder on Sansa fix!

Boy, looking at the sitemeter I only need a few more visits to have the 2nd best month yet!! so it has only been a short time and not much of a challenge. (same with page views!) Too bad nobody is bothering to read it. It looks like the Sansa problem that I had gets the most hits how to fix your invisible songs on a sansa

Kevin Slowey

Kevin Slowey just won his 3rd game of the season. This kid really looks good. I am excited about getting to watch him pitch. He is now 3-0, and he really holds up the pitching rotation. They now have Johan Santana the best pitcher in baseball, Boof Bonser who I really like, I think he is not fully there for a #2 man in the rotation, but I see nothing keeping him from reaching that potential. Carlos Silva has really turned things around this year, he gets alot of grief from the radio and the newpapers, but I have had faith in him for some time now. (before I had a blog :)).

Joe Mauer

Joe Mauer hit his First ever Grand SLAM today!! it was awesome. He is the Minnesota Twin that my 3 year old son loves the most. Truthfully I think my thirteen year old son put him up to it. But that is just ok with me. I really do like this kid as a player. He gets knocked in the papers and the radio due to his injuries. They say he is injury prone, I don't really see how anyone is injury prone. They always said that about Robert Smith of the Minnesota Vikings, but then he ended his career on a full 16 game season, in the NFL as a running back that is a good thing.

BGP

So the weird thing I don't get about BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), one of them anyway, is why do you need to clear it when you make changes. I had an issue yesterday that BGP for the site was working and a few months ago the design engineer made changes to the site, and added load balancing to work across two routers on site. When this was done all routes were still be redistributed into BGP from OSPF. however the configuration did not have all of the routes listed in the config using either a route map or redistribute command?? The site continued to work until the circuit took a hit, then BGP reconverged and the missing routes became apparent. the site lost redundancy and lost routes to another area that had only OSPF routes for it. We had to put in Prefix statements with the other side routes and the extra OSPF area to get it all working. I am not a design engineer, at this time I only fix what is wrong, so I don't always know what they were trying to accomplish when they in...

Internet Proxy

Our company uses load balancers and multiple different proxies for internet access. The proxy configuration you have your browser pointed to, may be different depending on where you are in the country or business unit within the company. That leaves for some discrepancy among the different files out there. For example we may have upto three different files for setting your proxy settings. I have yet to find two of them the same. They have build in diversity (load balance), the external DNS has load balance built into it, and the each of the actual proxy server farms have load balancers. you think with all that sifting and shifting and balancing it would work correctly, heck no.

Links to make life easier

Lifehack.org and lifehacker.com both have a good idea. These sites try to show different ways that people have found to make life easier with computers and gadgets and such. I want to do much the same with this blog, and to show easy ways to make a difference in someone else's life. I am not a writer by nature, I would prefer to browse for what I need, book mark it if I think I would use it later and go from there. I have found many useful items of knowledge on the web, some from blogs or other personal entries (FAQ, Tech-help Q&A, ETC.). That was the secondary reason that I had started this blog. I remember when I was younger, we we taught that we should have life very easy due to having computers do all of the work for us, and robots. For meals we would only need three pills, each was a full meal. Boy that whole paragraph makes me laugh, LOL. My whole job is trying to fix the things that computers and robots have screwup someone somewhere. The company has a huge IT departmen...
