Job Satisfaction is something that so many of us strive for in life. I have had many jobs over the last (many) years. In every one, with the exception of one, I have found a high level of satisfaction. Even as I continue to write this I am not sure which Job that one really was. I just took the CCIE written and it was tough, I missed by 2 questions, I only scored a 39% on the QOS and was low on only IP routing and WAN. I thought I was ready when I took the test, I now need to work a bit more on a couple of those areas. Fortunately for me work has enrolled me in a QOS class. Unfortunately for me it is only a two day web cast class, other were able to attend the full week class and has reported back that it was great but too short to cover all it needed to. I would have been in the full week class had I not gotten selected for the CCIE bootcamp (written only). Lightlearn put on the class and it was well done, our instructor was Noel, and he really seems to know his stuff, and he knows the test. I have another certification test coming up so I wont be writing too much in the coming month. So perhaps you have a comment that you could enter in and someone might actually read it!! I dont think too many people actually read anything I have written here. I have to cram much of the huge books I have boughten into my head so that I can pass this expensive test.

Weird Problem between two Cisco devices. On one device we are seeing errors in the log (router A) %OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr x.x.x.x on VlanY from EXSTART to DOWN, Neighbor Down: Too many DBD retransmitions %OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr x.x.x.x on VlanY from DOWN to DOWN, Neighbor Down: Dead timer expired and on router B the head end router %DTP-SP-5-DOMAINMISMATCH: Unable to perform trunk negotiation on port Gi5/1 because of VTP domain mismatch. %EARL_L3_ASIC-SP-3-INTR_WARN: EARL L3 ASIC: Non-fatal interrupt Packet Parser block interrupt %MLS_STAT-SP-4-IP_LEN_ERR: MAC/IP length inconsistencies Now at first look this would seem to be a physical problem of some sort, we are not able to see any kind of errors, So on some investigation we discovered that the ARP table is not getting updated on the one side of the link. So the weird thing I don't get about BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), one of them anyway, is why do you need to clear it when you make changes. I had an issue yesterday that BGP for the site was working and a few months ago the design engineer made changes to the site, and added load balancing to work across two routers on site. When this was done all routes were still be redistributed into BGP from OSPF. however the configuration did not have all of the routes listed in the config using either a route map or redistribute command?? The site continued to work until the circuit took a hit, then BGP reconverged and the missing routes became apparent. the site lost redundancy and lost routes to another area that had only OSPF routes for it. We had to put in Prefix statements with the other side routes and the extra OSPF area to get it all working. Cisco's FWSM, a firewall blade that goes into a Cisco 6500 switch. The Console connection is located on the board inside of the slot. Sometimes you need to have this connection to provide Cisco TAC information when troubleshooting. You also can see log messages that you may not see session'ed into the device. It was also helpful when the device was locking or freezing up in such a way that the SSH connections were frozen too. the connection to the console of the FWSM was very handy then. From this console you can also change to any context and the system rather freely, just as you can from traditional SSH session. So remember to connect up the console before you need it, as it is impossible to connect while in production with out shutting the device down to back the Module out of the chassis.

Have you ever made some changes to a Cisco router and needed to revert back to the start-up config? Well, it is alot easier now, as you know the "copy start Run" wont do it, that merges the two to make some monster of a config. The command is "configure replace" and will replace the running config just as if you had re-booted a router. I have not tried this myself I am assuming that this will have some impact in a production environment? Any how the article says that this is part of a feature known as Configuration Rollback.
