Spybot vs Ad-aware
Chuck wrote a good little spot here and I agree fully with the article.

And if you have talked to me you will know that last statement he make I have said before!
Of course, if you use a layered defense, you may never see any adware or spyware. Just as the dentist finding no cavities in your teeth shouldn't lead you to stop brushing, though, your finding no malware shouldn't lead you to remove redundant protection.
all of that from PChuck's blog, what I would like to add is I have used both of these to clean up my Nephews PC's after they have been away at college. I would like to presume that they have been good boys, but the way I keep getting one of there machines back, is just sick.
I am a network guy, not the best microsoft guy, I have to rely on people like Chuck and blogs and help sites to figure out what is going on. I think I have done fairly good. I have told my "one" nephew that he really need to get a new PC as it is already several years old and does not pass the Microsoft Validation ?!?! not sure what he did there. it was upgraded from win98 to win2000 to winXP, aaargh. never did he ask me for any of that assistance. instead him and his buddies at collage or his dad have done the work. His Dad assures me that the copy of winXP is valid and that he bought it from the College.
Oh well. when I have to I wipe it clean and start over, but for all other PC's Spybot and ad-aware have done the trick.
