Old Friends

I just spend the evening out with an old Friend and his wife.
Jim came into my life around my Junior/Senior year in High School. We worked together at a local department store, he in Automotive and me in Electronics. We fast became more then just good friends, I considered him my best friend and I had to make a difficult choice when it came to choosing my best man when I was married.

At the time I had know Jim for about 5 years or so, and I had know the man I chose as my best man since I was about 7, Flash. Flash and I had just started to drift apart, so it was early enough that I could sense it but did not really believe that we would continue to drift apart.

Anyhow Jim and his wife Kim, me and my lovely wife went out for a night on the town. Jim had recently accepted a job at in the "Tech world" in San Diego, and was back in town for a weekend. We started the evening with dinner, then I invited them back to our place, for they had not seen it. Later we went to the local dive bar and talked until the DJ started up and we could not hear each other any longer.

Jim surprised me with his life/career trail. Like I said earlier, he was in the Automotive department and seemed destine for a career in management, I however know that I was and am a technological geek. Jim started off going to a state Collage for year and a half, then jumped into the management arena, first I think he was in a small retail chain, but I know later he was with the SuperAmerica. That is where he met his Wife, and they now have 3 kids 2 dogs and who knows what other pets. The next company he worked for was Seasonal Concepts, and if I recall correctly he was in management. This is the company help him to convert his skill set from management to techy geek!

So now some years later, Jim and I have continued to drift apart as our families grew and priorities change, Jim has apparently gotten his tech savvy down real good as he has landed a really good job, in California and be able to afford to live there as well. Well done Jim!!

So the evening with Jim was a great time, I sometime get stuck in my life and don't get out, don't spend time with my friend as I am with my family (and love that) or at work (accept that).

Co-workers have been my dominate friends most all of my life. Right now none of them live too close to me, and so I don't hang with any of them outside of work.
