Fantasy Football is Crazy

The first two weeks of the season is when you learn how to win your league.
Week three is critical, hopefully you have won at least one game by now. if not the season is not over. 20 years ago, I lost my first three, and then went on to win a playoff spot and eventually win the Superbowl. that was the last strike year, it almost broke out newly formed league.

What happens is that the first two weeks tell you where your Draft strategy went wrong, and where you are right. Lots of the other guys are going to be telling you that you need to try and make a trade, try and get someone you think will be doing good the second half of the season (ONLY TWO GAMES? WHATS all the talk about 2nd half). and make a low ball offer to get said goods for cheap! Sound wonderful, if you think you got someone in your league that will go for that fine, do it. The leagues that I play in are probably more realistic, in that nobody is going to trade Larry Johnson, Steven Jackson, for some wide receiver that you picked up in the fifth or sixth round.

So whatcha gonna do? Well try to work out a trade, look for something more realistic, something that makes sense for both teams. Know your trade opponent, are they a haggler? are they trusting or are they paranoid. If they are a haggler start low, make a trade that you know they won't accept and work toward your goal, I don't recommend asking for someone you don't want, cause what you gonna do when you get them? If your target player is on a team that the owner is trusting, know your league rules. Some leagues require all other owners to vote on accepting each trade and can block a lopsided trade. if you have now rules, make your trade offer straight up, perhaps with a slightly lower offer from you. If your target player is on a paranoid team owner team, or a rookie owner, you may not get them, I have never had too much luck trying to trade with these owners, they generally don't trust any offer you make them. This is where your careful notes from the draft (IF you had a live one room draft, not online) Use those notes, about anyone that you drafted that the other owners grumbled about.

If you are unable or unwilling to make that Trade. Scour the free agents. Look for guys that are doing well that are available, DUH!

if none of them are available, then look for players getting touches that are looking like they might become a big part of the team that they are on.

I don't' make may changes... but that can work, last year our runner up team made so many transactions that he actually won less money then any other playoff team.

Depending on the size of your league will determine who is available.
