Football Officiating

Football officiating seems to get worse and worse each year. I think that they should do away with the instant replay altogether. In the last several games I have watched I have seen some bizarre stuff. I see a running back run hard and push the defender back trying to reach out for the first down, the whistle blows and the office comes running from five yards back (behind the play) and turns a 90 degree turn to mark the ball. Official marks it short. (like he could precisely see where the ball was when the run was stopped or forward progress). Then the part that really gets me. The go to the far side line (it is always the far sideline isn't it?) Where they carefully mark the spot on the chain that matches to the blade of grass that is closest to the nearest line marker. Three big zebras run the chain set over to the ball, where they now line that marked chain back up to the line marker (lets hope that it is perfectly straight). I have yet to see a protractor to be out there to make sure that they are not favoring the offense???!!
Now they line that baby up and he ends up just short, like by less then an inch. Like the dude that marked the placement of the football actually saw what he was suppose to from over five yards away and running (and probably out of shape).

Now back up, to the last first down, that football was also marked by some out of shape dude that was running at the precise moment in time that the play was stopped.

So marking the ball is a VC (Viscous circle). Two poorly marked balls and then all the precision in the world to show that they either just missed it or just made.

The NFL is real Funny, they pay the players millions of dollars, the coaches millions of dollars, and they hire part time refs, and I am sure they do the best that they can. Today, I saw where DT makes big hit, and the ball carrier drops the ball on the way to the ground. Only the visiting team is around the ball carrier, and they jump on it, few seconds later a tight end jumps in also, but things have settled down because the referee has already blown the whistle because from over ten yards away he supposedly saw it all correctly the first time. So the coach knowing that the Ref may have not been able to see the fumble as he was not on that side of the ball carrier. They kindly oblige him and sticks he head into the black hood. The reply I see, and the announcers see clearly show the fumble, then two defense players co-wrapping it up. One tight end jumping in after that. Mr. Stripes comes out and says that it was a fumble, but recovery could not be determined so we are going to take your time out away.....WHAT, you admit you were wrong, and coach was tight but you can not say that those two big guys could not keep that stupid TE away from the ball. Come on, The NFL needs to rid this or fix it.

Last night I saw the big running ball marking official run up and precisely mark the location of the ball carriers progress on a pass play. He must have been more then five yards behind the play because (he looked stupid) he ran up and marked the location (very precisely I might add) and then looked down to see the ball rolling out of bounds. The receiver never caught the ball. can you believe it? What int he world was he marking???

That is enough Rant for now.
