Game 163
Twins and Tigers were not able to take the title in 162 games so they had to play one more game. And what a game it was, nine innings still did not determine who would face the Yankees. Scott Baker took the mound for the Twins, and did a good job. He made one really bad pitch to Cabrera for a two-run homerun in the third inning. Tiger lead 3-0, the crowd was a bit quiet. The Twins got a run back, but the rally ended. Baker then set them down one after another.
In the sixth inning Jason Kubel knocked a solo homerun. Tigers lead 3-2. Go to the bottom of the seventh inning and the Twins score two more runs, the crowd is so loud now, that my six year old son had to plug his ears. Twins lead now 4-3 just get six more outs and we are champs!!!
Top of the eight, uuugg are you kidding me? Tiger still have fight in them, Ordonez solo homerun. Tie game!! With how tight this game was, it was hard to believe this was just the first time, since the scoring started, that the game was tied 4-4. I actually missed it and just saw the ball land in the next section.
Gardy can drive me nuts, Baker started the seventh, Rauch relieved him and got the next two outs. Majaris came in and failed to get any outs, Guerrier was put in and finished that inning but gave up the homer to Ordonez in the 8th. Replacing Guerrier was Joe Nathan, and he finished off the eighth or rather a nice double play did. Joe finished off the ninth. Jesse Crain came in and did a good job. Mahay replaced him and Keppel finished off the game, but not without some extra excitement. The Tigers played hard, the Twins just played a bit harder.
When the Twins needed an out, they got it. when the twins needed a hit, they got it. The twelfth inning was gut wrenching. Tiger get the bases loaded and just one out. The hit a ball that we really cannot get a double play on, Punto goes home with it for the force out. Gomez leads off with a big hit in the bottom of the 12th. Alexi Casilla who was hitting .198 before that at bat, drives in the winning run for his 17th RBI.
What a game, what a game.
And now to face the Yankees in less then 19 hours or so.
