So if Brett Favre really better then Tavaris Jackson?

Brett Favre is 5-0 for the first time in his career, so I was curious on where he ranked in Viking history for season by a QB. He ranks 56th and is climbing fast the last two games. But what I noticed is that TJack (Tavaris Jackson) from 2008 was ranked 57.

So, just looking at the stats from pro-football-reference.com through five games there are some remarkable similarities. Click the title to go to the page I was reading, if you can read stats!!

Both started 5 games
Both had 149 attempt, Favre completed 15 more of those.
Both had about the same yardage, so TJack got more bang for his completion 1069 vs 1056.
Both completed 6 TD and 2 INT
TJack was sacked 14 times and Favre was sacked 11

Now TJack's stats are more then just those five games, they also include the games in which he did not start. I watched most games and don't really recall how many times he may have come in relief and did something either good or bad.

Leadership is a big difference, Brett has command of this team, I did not think that he would have that much command as he does. TJack has not been exactly nurtured the way that I would have liked him. I think that Brad and whomever moved up to draft this guy was short sighted and thought that TJack was a first rounder that slipped to the second round. I think that TJack was slightly over rated going into the draft based on his arm strength. Probably would have been a great 3rd round pick for a team that had a decent started for at least two years. Instead TJack was drafted by the Vikings who ran Daunte Culpepper out of town before Childress ever called an offensive play. Brad Johnson was not a quality starter build to last two full seasons and then hand over the snaps to TJack.

Instead, in case you have forgotten, Brad Childress took near playoff team (9-7) and turned them into a rebuilding team? Brad Johnson started 14 games I think, TJack started two. By 2007 TJack was made the starter and started 12 games, missed others due to injury. If you recall he was injured in the pre-season and missed critical time. It is my belief that Brad Childress rushed TJack into the lineup due to the fact that we had no one else, Kelly Holcomb? No! TJack was 8-4, for a team that was 8-8, yet there was grumbling that he is not the QB to lead this team to the Super Bowl.

In 2008, TJack beat out fan favorite Gus, and lost two games that were not really his fault, but Childress benched him any how. Gus was just what the Dr. ordered and the Vikes took off. Gus got injured and TJack came in and looked like he should have. Winning the games he needed to. He helped crush the AZ Cardinals, who went on to just miss winning the SuperBowl. And in the final game he led the Vikings down the field for a game winning FG as time was running out. Then came the playoffs against Childress' mentor Andy Reid, TJack made at least one big mistake, and was unable to lead the Vikings down the field when it mattered. Again the "Media" marked that TJack did not carry the faith of the coach. Favre obviouly does.

I don't think that the Vikings would be 5-0 with TJack in there.

Let me know what you think.
